I would like to allow for special characters in tags, too. this seems like the more general version of another proposal here called 'Hashtags with spaces'.

while I also support spaces in hashtags of course, I personally would rely on being able to have more complex hashtags as I intend to have large topical studyboards. these will imply many pdfs and also a more complex structure of thought-categorization (i.e. tagging).

to give an example: I would like to have tags for persons, and would need

a) to find all persons I alredy tagged by looking for something like "#per_SurnameInitial"

b) this could also be used to keep a longer list of tags in some order that is not only reliant on initial letters (as it would keep all persons (etc) in one block, and simulate something like hierachical tagging)

please consider, as it would make MN much more versatile/useful for more complex studyboards. ... oh, and I guess it would also allow for spaces in tags ;-)
